A video game is an electronic game that uses an input device such as a keyboard or controller to generate audiovisual feedback. Video games are usually defined based on their platforms:

  • Arcade video game
  • Home consoles like Playstation/Xbox
  • Handheld console like Nintendo Switch/Steam deck.
  • Computer games for PC/Mac
  • Mobile games for Android/iOS
  • Browser-based games using different programming platforms like flash/java
  • Virtual Reality games using head mounted display systems such as Meta Quest 2, Valve Index, Pico Neo Eye 2, HTC Vive. etc - which can be further divided into tethered/non-tethered systems and also divided into PC or Mobile processor systems

Video games may also be categorised based on genres such as Platformer, Shooter, Survival, Rhythm, Puzzle, Narrative, Interactive Movie.

As the definition of a “video game” is very wide, this term may not be the most useful.
