ABOUT THE WORK

Daisy's Broken Mirror

In Chng Nai Wee’s 𝘚𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘺, the audience is confronted by an array of CRT TVs, their screens showing the faces of humans in crisis situations. Through their facial expressions and speech, these faces prompt us to question our supposed indifference to their plight. The emotional resonance of the face forms the starting point for this collaboration between Zai Tang and Debbie Ding.

In response to Chng's work, Tang and Ding have created an experimental virtual reality performance. Using a game engine, audio software and an online virtual world platform, the audience will be brought on a journey across an imaginative terrain, where they will encounter uncanny faces, augmented voices and non-human ambiences.

This performance was part of Sonic Medi(t)ations by Zai Tang, a multi-programme response to the exhibition See Me, See You: Early Video Installation of Southeast Asia for the Resonates With Residency.
