Is it true that falling headstones pose a credible threat to public health and safety? Or is it unnecessary mass hysteria and the circulation of an urban myth? So I did a little googling and found this: From this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jiscmail.ac.uk\/cgi-bin\/webadmin?A2=britarch;ad73012c.0610\">britarch discussion post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>SUMMARY OF ACCIDENTS RELATING TO MEMORIALS 1982 &#8211; 2003<\/p>\n<p>3 year old boy crushed by gravestone &#8211; Fatal (Wear Valley)<br \/>\n2 year old child injured by falling gravestone &#8211; non fatal (Sunderland)<br \/>\n2 year old child injured by falling gravestone &#8211; non fatal (Preston)<br \/>\n9 year old child crushed by gravestone &#8211; fatal (Liverpool)<br \/>\n9 year old child crushed by gravestone &#8211; non fatal (Burnley)<br \/>\n4 year old child trapped by falling headstone &#8211; non fatal (Westminster)<br \/>\n20 months child, struck by recently erected headstone &#8211; non fatal (Plymouth)<br \/>\n3 year old child, trapped by fallen headstone &#8211; non fatal (Port Talbot)<br \/>\n44 year old man, trapped by fallen headstone &#8211; fatal (Belper)<br \/>\n5 year old child, crushed by memorial &#8211; non fatal (Chester)<br \/>\n6 year old child, crushed by falling memorial &#8211; fatal (Harrogate)<br \/>\n2ft high memorial in Dukinfield cemetery fell onto a woman&#8217;s leg and<br \/>\ntook her skin off down to her ankle, then trapped it against a kerb and<br \/>\nbroke it in five places &#8211; non fatal (25th September 2002)<br \/>\nYoung man killed in a Salford Churchyard &#8211; fatal (2003)<\/p>\n<p>Also I also remember the case of the freak accident of the 8 year old boy instantly killed by a headstone in Glasgow: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-37895437\">BBC: Ciaran Williamson killed &#8216;instantly&#8217; by falling headstone (2015)<\/a>. However if these represent the statistics of the whole of the UK over 20 years then I say YOUR RISK OF BEING FATALLY CRUSHED UNTIL DEAD BY FALLING HEADSTONE IS INDEED GREATLY EXAGGERATED!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3429\" src=\"https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/32469515503_54e8475246_c.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Untitled\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/32469515503_54e8475246_c.jpg 800w, https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/32469515503_54e8475246_c-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/32469515503_54e8475246_c-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But, er, I suppose it doesn&#8217;t mean you should intentionally lay your head underneath these headstones that have just failed their H&amp;S test.<\/p>\n<p>Although then again, no one can really stop you from doing that. Erect the plastic windmills! Pile on the Poundland tinsel!
