Do not stir. Well you can slosh it about a bit, but don&#8217;t stir it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Detergent<\/b> acts as a lysis buffer which breaks open the membrane enclosing the cell and the nuclei membranes within the cells.<\/li>\n<li><b>Salt<\/b> makes the DNA precipitate (solidify and appear) when the alcohol is added later.<\/li>\n<li><b>Pineapple Juice<\/b> contains an enzyme known as bromelain which is a protease, meaning that it breaks apart proteins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><center>DNA is thus released into the solution.<\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2381\" src=\"https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/11873638405_002538f22c_c.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/11873638405_002538f22c_c.jpg 800w, https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/11873638405_002538f22c_c-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dbbd.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/11873638405_002538f22c_c-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/center>Without stirring, filter the liquid. Reserve just a small amount of the liquid.<\/p>\n<p>(Because if you have too much liquid in your final cup you might find you don&#8217;t have enough alcohol to go around. And you need as much alcohol as the filtered liquid for this.
