A skeuomorph is a physical ornament or design on an object copied from a form of the object when made from another material or by other techniques.
There can be physical skeuomorphs or digital skeuomorphs - eg: graphical interfaces which emulate objects in the physical world, or features such as iphone's click sound on the camera which does not come from a mechanical shutter, but from a sound file (photoShutter.caf) in the phone's operating system.
