Dread diseases are defined as those quite nearly fatal massively dreadful diseases that are usually covered by your big fat insurance policy.

Your insurance man probably refers to them as "dread diseases" as well. Interestingly, as medical care improves, people may find themselves in a situation where they may actually have to claim more than once for these dread diseases, having survived the first only to succumb to another...

Usually including things like:

  • Operation on the aorta
  • AIDS
