I (as a singaporean citizen) applied for the Working Holidaymakers Visa in 2007 and received the visa 3 days later. It enabled me to work legally in any occupation in the UK for 1 year and live in the uk for up to 2 years.

Prior to 2007 I understood that this same visa allowed for 2 years work and living in the UK.

The objective of the working holiday is to allow young people to live and work in uk for a short period (a holiday period) so your application writeup must reflect the same intention. Working Holiday visa is not for people to stay or work in uk for long term.

2010: Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme

Working Holidaymakers Visa was renamed Tier 5: Youth Mobility when UK visa system was rehauled with a "tier system". Subsequently after changes in UK border policy, it was pulled for countries such as Singapore in 2010 (countries must sign up for the scheme). Up to this point, only Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco and New Zealand have joined this scheme. There is a quota each year for each country.
